MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK
Murchison Falls National Park, located in northwestern Uganda it spans its boundaries in districts like Masindi, Buyisa, Kiryandongo and Nwoya. The park is the country’s largest national park and famously known for its spectacular powerful waterfall, which flows through a narrow 7meter gorge plunging 45meter into the devil’s cauldron. The park is home to the iconic Murchison conservation area which is made up Karuma wildlife reserves, Bugungu wildlife reserves, Budonga forest, kanyiyo Pabidi forest and Murchison falls National Park.
Historically Murchison falls National Park it was visited by two explores Samuel and Florence Baker in 1863 and they named it Murchison falls after the geologist Roderick Murchison by then who was the president of the royal Geographical society.
Murchison Falls National Park host over 76 mammal species namely, lions, giraffes, Kobs, oribis, water bucks, buffalos, leopards, elephants, warthogs, Jackson’s hartebeest, primates like chimpanzees in Budonga forest patas monkeys, vervet monkeys, olive baboons and many more not forgetting bird species such as great blue turaco, goliath heron, woodland kingfisher, shoe bill, black headed lapwing, black billed barbet, sliver bird, speckled tinker bird, black crake, double toothed Barbet, yellow fronted barbet, African wattled lapwing, Abyssinian ground roller, Abyssinian ground hornbill, swallow tailed bee- eater, pied kingfisher, Giant kingfisher, red throated bee- eater, swamp flycatcher, northern carmine bee- eater not to mention but a few that can be seen on your safari.
